Founder/Executive Director, Chantia Lewis
Chantia Lewis I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. After graduating from Bay View High School, I enlisted in the Air Force. I was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska for three years. It was a very fun and interesting experience. After I left the military, I returned home to finish my education.
In 2008, I was studying criminal justice at Mt. Mary College, working full time as an administrator of a child care center, and part-time as a Realtor, when a young lady approached me to help her get her life on the right track by getting her GED, getting into college, and becoming a homeowner.
As I began to research how to get her started, one day I stopped and smiled and said to myself ”I am actually having fun and enjoying this experience.” It seemed to come natural to me, and that’s when I realized my passion was guiding and aiding people to reach their goals and maximum potential. It was a life altering and eye opening experience for me. My entire adult life, up to that point, I wanted to be a corporate attorney. Because I have a natural ability to speak to people, I like to engage in healthy debates and love to get people to see my point. My career choice was clear. I was an attorney. In that experience, I realized that I wasn’t an attorney. I was an adult educator.
In 2009, I began to write the mission and direction of the organization. The mission l was clear after being an administrator of the child care center for seven years. More and more people were lacking the life-skills as well as the soft-skills that are essential to getting ahead in life. Once the mission was developed and on paper, the only thing missing was the name. After praying, the name was clear. This mission and vision will only get completed One Step At a Time (OSAT).
Immediately I began to work towards the goal of developing OSAT. I obtained my Trainer Certificate form UW-Milwaukee, and enrolled in the Community Leadership Bachelors program at Alverno College where I am currently a student. I am married to Anthony Lewis, and together we have three wonderful children: Jireh, Jeremiah and Makayla.
Interesting Fact About Me: Before I wanted to be a lawyer, I wanted to become an actress. Most of the time you will also catch me singing.
